More Medals!

Yesterday was a good day for Canada, with three more medals, including our first gold of the London 2012 games from Rosie MacLennan on the trampoline.

The other medals were won by Ryan Cochrane at the pool with a silver in the 1500m freestyle, and by the women's Team Pursuit team, with a bronze at the Velodrome.

In diving, Emilie Heyan's survived one disasterous dive and climbed back into the top 12 to qualify for the final round of the 3m Springboard event.

Canada now has 10 medals, and sits in 11th place on the medal list.  Our goal for this Olympics was to be in the top 12... so far so good.

Michael Phelps closed out his amazing career with his unprecedented 18th career gold medal in the 4x100m medly relay.

Michael came in to the NBC Studio tonight to be interviewed by Bob Costas, and I caught him as he exited the studio...

The halls were packed with people trying to catch a glimpse of Michael, so much so that Bob Costas had to push his way through the crowd to get back to his dressing room (and was good naturedly joking about nobody hanging around to get his picture).

It was a very good day for the host country, as Great Britain hauled in 6 gold medals, moving them into third spot on the medals list behind the USA and China.

In other news, Oscar Pistorius, the double leg amputee from South Africa, who runs on prosthetic carbon fibre blades, and has the nickname "Blade Runner", has qualifed for the 400m semi-finals, although some wonder whether his prosthetics give him an unfair advantage.

Personally, I don't see anybody cutting of their legs to gain an advantage in the Olympics, and he is unlikely to challenge for a medal, so I have no problem with him competing here.
