Two more medals for Canada yesterday! Canadian swimmer, Brent Hayden, won the bronze in the Men's 100m Freestyle, and the Men's Eight rowing team, who apparently didn't get the memo on bronze medals, ended up taking the silver.
(Random kid about to be devoured by pigeons...)
Often criticized for not airing enough live, NBC generally does a great job of storytelling, and I have to admit that I was really caught up in the emotion of the US women's gymnastics team stories this year. The qualification round drama, and the team championship rivalry with Russia was really well presented. On the other hand, I never saw a single Canadian gymnast shown on NBC...
(Still say these guys are creepy...)
As a result of the controversy I described yesterday, with badminton teams purposely trying to lose games, four teams were disqualifed from the Olympics, which actually gave a second chance to a Canadian team, that then went on to win their quarter-final match, and are now in the semi-finals.
(Statue outside my hotel, now has water fountain...)
As if there wasn't enough controversy already, some of the results from the boxing venue are quite unbelievable. In fact, the referee and judges decision in one match involving a Japanese boxer was so bad that it was later overturned. If you watch the video in the link, you'll understand why.
(Oriental boat at St. Catherine's Docks...)
Lastly, the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, is apparently quite the character, with his crazy hair, and eccentric personality. Yesterday, he got stuck about 10m in the air along a 320m long zip line at Victoria Park in London, but took it in stride and probably made some political points from the incident.
